Kaizen and Procrastination
How to overcome procrastination:
Make a list of what you need to get done and put it where you will see it easily. Egg timer:
Pick the easiest thing in the list. Guesstimate how long it will take to accomplish this task. Set your egg timer for that amount of time. Then trick yourself by saying...if I get this task done before the egg-timer goes off I get I get the amount of time I set it for to do something fun or eat something fun (healthy) or some kind of REASONABLE reward. Now don't take advantage of the reward thing...folding a pile of clothes does NOT mean you get a diamond necklace...I think you can figure this one out.
If you don't have that much time and have a lot to get done. Set the egg-timer for enough time to do several things and then have your reward. Always save the least favorite for last. I know "they" usually tell you the opposite. But if your willing to do that...you're not really a procrastinator. By saving the worst for last, you're not dreading it all day because you are busy trying to beat the egg- timer on the easy stuff, you've had one or two rewards...all in all a productive, rather pleasant day.
Now you get to the one you HATE. Get the egg-timer, figure how long it will take if you really stick to it and get it done. Now set the egg-timer for five miutes longer than you actually need. This will keep you on track, but allow for a few heaving 'I hate this job' moments. By that time though you're already well into the job and will figure, "Since I hate this so much, I don't want to do this again. I've already got this much done. I might as well finish and get my reward...make it a good one...like an afternoon at the beach, a glass of wine with a friend, an art exhibit opening...get a babysitter and go with your spouse.
Try to make your rewards activities instead of things, especially creative activities to stimulate that right brain which can help make some of those chores less painful.
VOILA! Nothin' like a good old fashioned egg-timer! This worksgreat for kids too, with chores or homework!

Tess Marshall's Words of Wisdom
Today Tess Marshall's newsletter was titled "Be Fearless in Bad Situations". She went on to describe a disintegrating, irritating social situation she was stuck in and she held to her word.
"It's not always easy to be authentic or to take a stand. It's tempting in those
situations to smile, nod, or join in the conversation.
situations to smile, nod, or join in the conversation.
I can't do it. I won't do it. I won't detach from my truth."
This struck me. The deliberateness in her tone and her last words, "I won't detach from my truth."
How easy it is to slide into political correctness, don't ruffle any feathers, be polite. Why should being polite mean NOT BEING REAL OR TRUTHFUL.
No, she is spot-on! Today I will try not to allow myself to sacrifice my authenticity in order to be polite. Why do I feel someone else's authenticity is acceptable, even if I find them offensive, while I must override my instinct to speak my mind and be instead, polite?
Thank you Tess, for awakening me to the importance of my truth.

Kaizen Overview
Who We Are
This is an on-line support group/ learning and teaching community about the Kaizen philosophy of self-improvement. Made famous by Toyota in Japan, many large and small companies and now personal coaches and individuals are discovering the miracle philosophy that eliminates the fear of change and makes all your goals achievable! SMALL STEPS make failure IMPOSSIBLE.
Rooted in the two thousand-year-old wisdom of the Tao Te Ching--"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"--Kaizen is the art of making great and lasting change through small, steady increments.
Kaizen is the tortoise versus the hare. Kaizen is the eleven Fortune 500 companies that significantly outperformed the market through moderate, step-by-step actions. Kaizen is losing weight not by a crash diet (which more often than not crashes) but by eating one bite less at each meal--then, a month later, eating two bites less. Kaizen is like starting a life-changing exercise program by standing--just standing--on a treadmill for one minute a day.
